[Baltimore, MD] January 27, 2005: Lupin Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (LPI) today announced that it has entered in an alliance with Cornerstone BioPharma, Inc. as a promotion partner in the US for its Suprax® (cefixime) antiinfective. Commencing immediately, Cornerstone’s sales force will co-promote Suprax® with a focus on primary care physicians.

Suprax® was approved in 2004 and has been promoted by LPI’s pediatric focused sales force. This partnership represents a significant expansion in the scope of physician coverage for Suprax® in the $1.2 billion US oral suspension antiinfective market.

Commenting on the agreement Vinita Gupta, Managing Director & President, LPI, Inc. said “We believe Suprax® offers physicians an attractive option in this era of increasing resistance to existing therapies. About Suprax®
Suprax® (Cefixime) Oral Suspension is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate infections, including uncomplicated urinary tract infection caused by E. coli and P. mirabilis; otitis media caused by H. influenzae (beta-lactamase positive and negative strains) and M. catarrhalis (most of which are beta lactamase positive); and pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by S. pyogenes. Suprax® has not been studied for the prevention of rheumatic fever following S. pyogenes pharyngitis/tonsillitis.

Suprax® is contraindicated in patients with known allergy to the cephalosporin class of antibiotics. Patients with previous hypersensitivity to penicillins should be closely monitored when taking Suprax®. The drug should be discontinued if an allergic reaction to Suprax® occurs.

Most adverse reactions observed in clinical trials were of a mild and transient nature. The most frequently seen side effects were GI events including diarrhea, loose/frequent stools, flatulence, abdominal pain, and dyspepsia.
